Between the earth and the moon, there is one full tone investigates the philosophy
“The music of the spheres” which was formulated by Phytagoras in ancient Greece and
later developed by astronomer Johannes Kepler in the 16th century. Phytagoras identified
the different intervals of musical tones by deviding a single string into different
lengths. He believed that this theory could also be applied to the relation beetween the
earth, the moon, the planets and the sun and that tonal intervals excisted in the distances
between the celestial bodies, for instance that there was one full tone between the
earth and the moon.
The work consists of two parts; a 6 voice sound greeting to outer space, and an animation interpretting “The music of the spheres” through a geocentric world view.
