Rest and Routine – Duet for Sanatorium and Modern Hospital is an electronic duet and sound installation which tells the story of a tuberculosis sanatorium in the early 1900s and a contemporary hospital seeking new answers to what the healthcare system might look like. The piece uses the duet form from classical opera to create a dialogue between past and present values in healthcare.
The exhibition space was covered with a linoleum floor with lasercut engravings depicting a floor plan of a modern hospital, while the duet’s lyrics were projected onto the walls, inspired by classical opera surtitles, forming a kind of poetic karaoke that guides the audience through the narrative.

At the finissage of the exhibition, a performance developed in collaboration with performance artist Karoline C. Holland unfolded within the exhibition - a duet between the modern hospital and the sanatorium, appearing as a ghost from the past.
